FD designed and implemented both the server and client components of the SalesData application. Through sophisticated user and administration websites built using C# and .NET technologies, FD was able to create a flexible, high-performance application that provides sales data feeds for reporting and charting. The server side system consists of a complex set of components that handles data uploads of approximately 4 million rows per week from across Canada. The system also merges weekly updates of bibliographic data for roughly one million titles, including new titles, pricing changes, and corrections. Users can access current weekly sales data and historical data spanning over 5 years.
Another component vital to the solution was the creation of multiple large OLAP cubes for pulling bestseller, title/ISBN, and market share reports. This business intelligence component allows users to efficiently access the data and slice & dice it as they see fit, in order to generate custom reports. These essential reports provide details on books in the market and can easily be converted into Excel workbooks, PDFs, or CSV files all with the click of a button. Moreover, the reports can be merged into existing in-house Point of Sale systems.
This process of transmitting data can also be automatically incorporated into the regular end-of-day or weekly procedures by the client's Point of Sale system. This feature is ideal for book retailers and publishers everywhere to efficiently evaluate sales targets, trends, pricing, budgeting, and more.
BNC SalesData currently tracks sales information provided by a 1,000 retailers. SalesData is now properly equipped with a high-quality system large enough to handle the extensive amount of data provided to its subscribers.
